2016 Garden Plans

Every year since buying our house, we’ve changed and enhanced our garden plans. This is our third year and we hope it will be the best yet. In the midst of the workshop going up and everything else in life, we’ve been waiting impatiently to garden. We’re glad spring is almost here. This year we are adding oregano, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, sage, and thyme in pots. We haven’t done herbs since 2012, so it’s nice to include them.

Garden Plans

The plants this year are:

  • Bell peppers
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Radishes
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Tabasco peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Spanish onions
  • Red onions
  • Green onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Celery
  • Lettuce
  • Cantaloupe
  • Carrots
  • Butternut squash
  • Zucchini
  • Summer squash
  • Green beans
  • Cucumbers
  • Corn

Our garden area is 16 x 16 (bordered on all four sides by two railroad ties each), so we had to figure out where the new plantings will go. It looks like we’ll have 7 rows of veggies, 5 mounds for the squashes, cucumbers and cantaloupes, and one last row for just the corn. We may have to expand our area next year. I want to concentrate on the overall landscaping in the future. Right now the garden is just a square of dirt in our backyard and I want to – this sounds a little silly – make it look pretty.

The garden is a very noticeable part of our yard and I really would like to make it more attractive. Another thing it needs is protection from pests, such as deer and raccoons. How we do that will be part of how we enhance the overall attractiveness of it.

We’re ready with our garden plans and looking at having some fun, too!
